What a beautiful Sunday; the morning has flown by—it’s almost nine o'clock!
I got up at six-thirty. It was wonderful to immerse myself in time—
to stop measuring it and simply feel it; my body was guiding me.
Today’s practice was so necessary!
Have I really been moving for that long? Really?
As I immersed myself, I connected with texts from the Yoga Sutras,
and became aware of the time of year: soon, the Chiclana Fair,
and the anniversary of my sister’s death—she died on a fair day,
as it was bound to happen: June 14th.
Everyone in their polka-dot dresses with ruffles,
with their music, their horses, and their dignified bearing...
...she began her journey on a fair day. And so many beautiful yet painful things come together right now:
the memory of her absence, and of her laughter.
I’ve seen the dresses on the house facades along the Gypsy slope.
I saw them from the tram! They were lovely.
Today, I would like to write about my grandmothers,
and their children, in these neighborhoods—
in *El Pájaro*.
The *El Pájaro* corner, very close to the *Cuesta de los Gitanos* (Gypsy Hill).
My grandmother Josefa was a friend and neighbor of "La Ovispa"—a local way of saying *avispa* (wasp).
"La Ovispa" was the grandmother of the flamenco singer Rancapino,
an artist very well-known in the south.
When Rancapino was a little boy,
he would arrive at his grandmother's house crying,
and she would tell him: "You’re a real pain in the neck!"
And in the communal housing where *payos* (non-Gypsies) and Gypsies
lived together,
very unique atmospheres were created.
In Chiclana, there is a river—the Iro River (which sounds Japanese)—
and it divides the town (or city, administratively speaking) into two zones:
*La Banda* and *El Lugar*.
And until not long ago, people would ask you:
"Are you from *La Banda* or *El Lugar*?"
*La Banda* has historically been the more disadvantaged area—
that’s why they wanted to know!
The *El Pájaro* corner was the town's gateway;
there was a lot of activity there—
workers cycling to Cádiz, goods and food coming in and out.
And when artists came to perform their gigs,
they would stop at *El Pájaro*.
My grandmother saw Lola Flores
applying her eyeliner
when she came to shoot a movie.
¿Tanto tiempo he estado en movimiento?
