WAVES OF MATTER("Material Undulations") is a painting where I wanted to combine two forms reminiscent of conventional objects (vases) and a mathematical object, a hyperhelicoid, set against a background populated by intertwined concentric circles in relief. I envisioned a scene where everything was strictly white, so as not to favor anything—neither light, color, nor form—and I eliminated reflections.
This allowed me to work on the base surfaces of the represented objects and the background using a series of algorithms that, in a sort of "form finding," performed multiple actions on the matter so that the very substance of the objects represented would organize itself in diverse ways in its structure. The algorithms do not work alone and do not autonomously create the image. This time, like a chisel, they allowed me to create sculptural surfaces with perturbations, undulations, deformations, and the tracing of geometries that together create a reality I feel is imbued with a sense of freedom.
