DAVIDE
GIANQUITTO — ARCHITECT AND ARTIST
Short
Biography
Three
elements have always captured my attention: form, color, and light.
In my practice as both architect and artist, I have sought to
understand and master the rules—only to deconstruct them through
alternative uses of traditional tools.
My
study of form led me toward an organic approach, favoring curves and
complex non-Euclidean geometries. The search for new forms guided me
toward a sense of harmony and balance, supported by generative
algorithmic design and computational modeling. The exploration of
color and light naturally brought me into the realm of digital
photography and rendering, with its infinite parameters and
fascinating visual potential.
Over
time, my work evolved thanks to a scientific investigation of
emerging technologies: 3D modeling software, digital painting tools,
photography, laser modeling, and CNC-based fabrication. I began
exploring these methods in the 1990s during a period of collaboration
with the Faculty of Engineering in Naples, always with the aim of
finding unconventional artistic applications.
I
am particularly fascinated by how artistic matter can evolve in “real
time”
through
advanced tools like generative algorithms (distinct from artificial
intelligence), which are now pivotal across disciplines. In the arts
especially, I believe they can serve as a meaningful starting point
for developing new expressive languages. I am currently focused on
researching complex, harmonious shapes and surfaces through
algorithmic computational modeling.
I
held a solo exhibition titled “Light,
Color, Form”
at
the Pappacoda Chapel, invited by the University Institute of Oriental
Studies in Naples, and have participated in several group shows,
including one at the Municipal Art Gallery of Gaeta. I have also
produced numerous digitally-driven images with strong artistic
character for various companies, and presented a selection of my
digital works as part of the “Open
House Architecture”
exhibition
circuit.
More
recently, I have taken part in several group exhibitions: in
September 2024 in Anacapri, on the island of Capri, in “Colors,
Shapes and Emotions”
at
the Mario Cacace Eden Paradiso Multimedia Center; in December 2024 at
the 36th edition of “Porticato
Gaetano”,
in the show “Mirrors
and Reflections”,
where I received an honorable mention from the jury; again in
December 2024 in “Art
is a Lie That Brings Us Closer to the Truth”,
held in the Armory Hall of Castel Nuovo in Naples; and in the group
exhibition at the private gallery “La
Stanza dell’Arte”,
near Castel Sant’Elmo
in Naples.
In
March 2025, I participated in the exhibition “Modern
and Contemporary Art in the Time of the Jubilee”
at
Galleria La Pigna, Palazzo Maffei Marescotti, Rome. In June 2025, I
exhibited in “A
Postcard for Gaber”,
authorized by the Gaber Foundation in Milan, at La Stanza dell’Arte,
Naples. A new solo exhibition is currently in preparation.
