This work is part of my Dalmatian Series, a personal exploration of the landscapes, memories, and cultural heritage that have shaped my connection to the Mediterranean.
The painting depicts Peristyle, the historic heart of Split and one of the most iconic places in Dalmatia. Surrounded by the ancient walls of Diocletian’s Palace, this space carries centuries of history, yet remains alive through the everyday presence of the city and its people.
Rather than focusing on architectural precision alone, I sought to capture the atmosphere of Peristyle at night, when the stone absorbs the last traces of daylight and the city becomes quieter. The deep blue sky contrasts with the warm tones of the ancient buildings, creating a dialogue between permanence and passing time.
As someone born and raised in Split, this place is more than a historical monument. It is part of my personal memory and identity. Through expressive brushwork and light-filled color, I wanted to convey not only the beauty of the architecture, but also the emotional connection between the city, its history, and the people who continue to live within it.
For me, Peristyle represents the enduring spirit of Dalmatia — a place where history, culture, and everyday life exist together in a timeless conversation.
