This small work is part of my Dalmatian Series, inspired by the quiet beauty of summer along the Adriatic coast.
The painting captures a moment of complete stillness — a small boat resting on calm water during the hottest hours of the day. The sea is motionless, the waves have disappeared, and the silence is broken only by the distant sound of a fly drifting through the warm air. In Dalmatia, this state of perfect calm is known as bonaca — a peaceful pause when nature itself seems to rest beneath the summer sun.
I was inspired by the atmosphere of small, secluded beaches where time slows down and the world becomes simple. The boat becomes a symbol of solitude, peace, and a deep connection with the sea.
Through vibrant colors and expressive brushwork, I wanted to capture not only a place, but a feeling — the warmth of a Dalmatian summer, the scent of salt in the air, and the rare tranquility that can only be found in moments when everything stands still.
This work was selected for an international miniature art exhibition in Dubrovnik, a city whose history and maritime heritage share the same Mediterranean atmosphere that inspired this painting.
