Rice, one of the most essential foods on Earth, nourishes billions of people and carries with it ideas of life, labor, survival and dependence on the planet’s resources. In this work, nourishment becomes flesh. What sustains life is transformed into the very substance of the human body.
The figure appears silent and suspended. It is impossible to know whether the child is emerging, disappearing or simply seeking protection. The Last Grain reflects on one of the great paradoxes of our time: in a world capable of producing abundance, many lives remain exposed to hunger and deprivation. Each grain becomes a sign of life, a story and a possibility of survival.
The work invites reflection on childhood, natural resources and collective responsibility toward the future. The last grain is not only the final fragment of food: it is the last chance for care, solidarity and survival that we are willing to share.
