We wanted to create a work that contained an element of surprise. This element had to remain partly concealed and require the viewer’s participation…
The lamp is a tribute to Picasso and his women: this is how Dora was born.
The lampshade evokes the hats worn by women at the beginning of the twentieth century, whose ribbons and frills concealed their faces. By illuminating the lampshade with an external light source, the shadow of a woman’s face in the style of Picasso is projected onto the wall: it is Dora Maar.
Created together with the master craftsman of shattered glass, Aniello Smilzo.
The lampshade is made with veneers in different color gradations of maple, eucalyptus, plane tree, ash, tanganika, and bolivar.
