Schräger Vogel

"Schräger Vogel" is a mixed-media collage from 2023. It consists of paper, photos and acrylic paint on paper. My practice is grounded in collage as a form of structural research. In "Schräger Vogel" found images are trapped within an abstract framework. In my art practice, I layer textures, paper, photos and paint into stories that invite the viewer to explore deeper meanings. In this painting I have experimented with form, body, calour and space. My main interest was to create the illusion of three dimensionality on a two dimensional support. That is why I have divided my background into several geometric spaces. They differ mainly in shape and calour and render the illusion of three-dimensionality. The foreground is organised differently. We see a fanciful body assembled by various collaged paper elements. Painted and glued elements on the main motiv take turns and interact. They give the impression of a small relief and enhance it´s three-dimensionality. It is impossible to tell the difference between the painted collage elements and the purely collaged sections. This gives the collage a light and playful side. It is like a game, that is my intention. During the process of creation I take spontaneous decisions and accidents happen, there is often chaos. The chaos is as well part of the creative process and will find its order in the end. Everthing comes together with a certain lightness and self-evidence.
