“Pinguine leben gefährlich” is a mixed-media artwork that I completed in 2022 and is made of acrylic paint, paper and sand. Moving across painting, works on paper, and mixed media, I approach the canvas as a site of excavation, where the image retains the trace of its own making. "Pinguine leben gefährlich" is an artwork that incorporates collage elements and consists of many layers of paint. It features painted and stick-on penguins that can only be distinguished from one another upon closer inspection. The found images of penguins are trapped within an abstract landscape, inviting the viewer into an uncanny and playful dialogue between recognized forms and texturality. This picture is about climate change and the penguins’ habitat. Climate change is causing the penguins’ natural habitat to disappear. Because of global warming, the ice is melting and the penguins are stranded on land.
