“Lollipop” is a mixed-media artwork from 2023. It is a combination of painting and collage and made of paper, photos and acrylic paint on canvas. My art practice is grounded in collage as a form of structural research. Moving across painting, works on paper, and mixed media, I approach the canvas as a site of excavation, where the image retains the trace of its own making. In "Lollipop" found images are trapped within an abstract framework, inviting the viewer into an uncanny and playful dialogue between recognized forms and texturality. In my practice, I layer textures, paper, photos and paint into stories that invite the viewer to explore deeper meanings. In this painting I have experimented with form, body, calour, space and depth. My interest was to create the illusion of three dimensionality on a two dimensional canvas. For this reason I have organised my background into four geometric spaces. They differ mainly in calour and form and render the illusion of three-dimensionality. In addition, I have created an extra dimension of space by adding this dark blue long shape on the right edge of the painting. The foreground is organised differently. We see a fanciful body assembled by various elements that suggest movement and three-dimensionality. In this work painted and found elements take turns and interact. This gives the collage a light and playful side. There is a lot of room for interpretation.
