This triptych draw inspiration from the mental maps of three real psychoanalytic
sessions on the topic: visible and invisible.
From a psychological point of view,
trying to "make oneself invisible"
is a common behavior, a form of defense to avoid being criticized, attacked or
judged. As it is also common to "be
an ostrich": put your head in the sand and pretend not to see the
problems hoping they will disappear. In this painting the background of neurons indicates the visible structural basis of our
reasoning: the brain, the cells, the nerve connections; above them I have
traced the mental map of the
psychoanalytic session and all the themes we have touched on: the physiological
processes are "invisible" to the consciousness yet they keep us
alive, the mental processes start from the unconscious like seeds that take
root in the earth before getting to light, our consciousness oscillates between
moments of full awareness and automatic unconscious reactions, the Universe itself
is composed of 96% of invisible dark matter and dark energy. All this is
written, painted, drawn on this canvas ...
The difference between the three paintings does not regards the topic, but in the
atmosphere and the focus : in the first session one we begun to explore the topic and the emphasis was mainly on the cognitive and
mental aspects of the problem, therefore the map of signs-symbols-connections
is much more prominent; in the second we focused on the psychological habit of "be an ostrich" and not seeing the problems, so the
image of the animal that puts the head in the sand is more evident; in
the third the accent was on the unconscious mechanisms of our behavior
that is rooted in habits and creates invisible patterns of automatic reactions so the painting is the darkest one and has a network of signs and almost invisible writings
that weave the background). Every sign has a meaning, every lines brings
somewhere….
