GNOTHI SEAUTON
Gnothi Seauton, Nosce te ipsum, Know thyself, these words still live at the entrance of the Temple of Apollo in Delphi. This painting is a “mental map” of my complex inner journey to discover myself, retracing the paths, obstacles, turning points of my entire life. It is very rich in symbols, it is an interweaving of paths that reproduce the fundamental experiences, the ones that left their marks, the ones that formed the weft and warp of my existence. I used pigments of mica, gold and platinum, to emphasize the intrinsic richness of any human existence: are materials that shine slightly, that are filled with light and emanate light. The structure of the painting develops around a central nucleus, where the signs are rarefied to leave room to pure white: the centre of our being, our true Self, the very essence of our spirit, where words fades and remain only silence and light…
We all think in images: the image comes before the word, the structure before the thought, our unconscious mind elaborates visual sequences and connection schemes before formulating a sentence. I give shape and colours to these images, I express with symbols the hidden underlying structure of our mental activity.
