THREE WOMEN 2
This painting is inspired by the life of 3 women with very similar characters, but whose life choices have led to different developments. All three are women who oscillate between moments of great enthusiasm and vitality, and moments of deep sadness and apathy. For one woman the wild periods prevailed, for another the darker ones were more lasting. The changes of colours symbolically indicate their transitions of mood, from the bright red to the obscure grey-black. In the central painting I have summarized, through chromatism only, the basic character structure that unites them. In the two paintings, on the left and the right, I have inserted the “mental map” of their life choices and the main events.
For years I worked as a clinical psychologist and it was natural for me to draw “mental maps” to underline the correlations between what was happening in the present and the most hidden and sometimes unconscious causes. I needed to have a visual image of the situation and of the cause-effect links. When I dedicated myself to painting, I tried to chromatically recreate these mental maps, that are able to summarize entire life paths.
