GRATUTUDE
This painting is a “mental map” of my artistic path, with its joys and disappointments, its leaps forward and setbacks, and with my continuous sense of amazement and surprise. It is a constant source of wonder for me to see how my hand spontaneously traces the mental map of a topic, how shapes impose themselves following their own logic, how they call variations of colours according to the symbolic meaning.
I tell life stories through symbols and lines of connection. We all think in images: the images come before the words, the structure before the thought, our unconscious mind elaborates visual sequences and connection schemes before formulating a complete sentence. I give shape and colours to these images, I express through symbols the underlying and hidden pattern of our mental activity. I think these signs are not my personal quirk, or my individualistic form of expression, but rather a sort of ancient language, a pre-verbal form of communication, that crossed the history of mankind since the first geometric incisions in the Palaeolithic caves: before of the words there was the gesture.
