Pelagic Substrate brings the Intersections series to a new stage by shifting the focus from emerging organic forms to the substrate itself as an active, living structure.
Textile fibres, smalti and sculpted pigmented adhesive are brought together through relief and surface modelling rather than conventional mosaic assembly. Shaped with temporary ceramic elements that are later removed, the substrate preserves their traces as a geological memory, while metallic pigments reveal subtle variations of light across its surface. Fibre no longer simply emerges from the mineral structure but becomes inseparable from it, suggesting a landscape where growth, erosion and transformation are recorded within the material itself.
