Organic Core marks the beginning of the Intersections series, exploring the point where organic structures and mineral matter first converge.
Born from my desire to bring together my two artistic languages—textile and mosaic—the work investigates how these seemingly incompatible materials can coexist within a single structure. In searching for a way to integrate fibre into mosaic while allowing it to remain suspended above the surface, I developed a layered substrate that enables both materials to gradually transform into one another.
Mixed media combines ceramic elements, hand-formed pigmented mortar tesserae and textile fibres emerging in relief. Rather than simply juxtaposing different materials, the work explores a continuous metamorphosis in which fibre becomes mosaic and mosaic begins to behave like fibre, giving rise to new organic forms.
