I Am Me is a participatory installation celebrating individuality and the many ways women choose to define themselves beyond expectations and stereotypes.
In the background, a collective photographic fresco brings together the hands of 215 women and girls, from three months to ninety-eight years old. Invited to respond freely to the statement "I am me", each participant expressed herself through a personal gesture: a thumb-up, a victory sign, a heart, an "OK", or even a raised middle finger. Together, these hands reveal the richness of lived experiences and the diversity of bodies, generations and identities.
In the foreground, two sculpted hands emerge as acts of affirmation and emancipation. One, inspired by pop aesthetics, breaks through a black box symbolizing imposed norms, its "OK" gesture embodying self-acceptance and liberation. The other, with the appearance of a classical bronze sculpture, subverts expectations through a defiantly raised middle finger, reclaiming the right to be unruly and free.
Balancing humour and defiance, I Am Me affirms that there is no single way of being a woman. Beyond conventions and prescribed roles, the work celebrates the power of self-definition and the freedom to exist on one's own terms.
The freedom to exist on one's own terms!
