Materials: Upper section in Trayma textile made with plant-based silk threads, retractable fiber, and regenerated cotton; watercolor intervention; solidified with plant-based resin and Mares stone treated with watercolor dye. Sealed with wax signature.

Concept: In Ancestor, Caterina Roppo gives form to a contemporary relic: a ritual object suspended between matter and memory, probing our connection to origin, genetic code, and generational continuity.

Composed of organic and regenerated materials, the sculpture brings together Trayma fabric: an archetypal skin and sensory archive woven by the artist and then mended, painted and modeled over and with Mares stone, a recurring element in the artist’s practice and a symbolic foundation of geological memory.

Ancestor does not assert identity; it reveals it as a mutable terrain. It is a gesture that interweaves vulnerability and listening, ritual and regeneration. In the face of the current global condition, the work stands as an act of collective elaboration: a passage through ancestral memory and inherited trauma, not as a form of worship, but as a regenerative possibility.

It invites us to consider this act of traversal as political: an exercise in resistance against historical violence and the violence yet unfolding.
