I observed how by inserting more than two elements of different typologies, a narrative developed subsequently to their relationship, which, despite not having any familiar elements, developed a network of associations, in this case, linked to the sphere of the disturbing and the psychological.
The vase of ancient mythological representation mentions a violent episode (Achilles and Penthesilea) which is linked to the supernatural emanation of the subject on the right: a portrait-collage over a model of anatomical viscera shown. The presence of the female head on the right is not simply juxtaposed but with its gaze it also detects a conscious presence that directs all one's attention towards that first element of association, the vase, which appears as an intruder casually integrated into this environment.
The graphic nature of the subject on the right is not limited to a single rough and violent meaning but also represents a psychological nakedness, an absence of concreteness which is thus debated by the presence of the vase in the foreground, a container which could allude to the mysterious content within itself. The relationship between these two subjects is violent and through this theme a coherence of narrative is achieved.
The title, Penanggalan, is a research for the oriental style of the subject to the right, a strong connection that seems to have had no origin. In my research I came across the Penanggalan, a Malay demon who is often depicted in this way, this association was not intentional but it was interesting to discover how it could be applied to the narrative of my work.
