“Girl, Standing #1” and “Girl, Standing #2” belong to the series “The Doomed.” The two paintings are conceived as a pair and should be displayed with a maximum spacing of 10 cm between them. Each canvas measures 80 cm in width.
The work draws on the gestures of children imitating police officers—pointing at “criminals” with a toy gun and shouting “Hands up or I shoot!” This innocent play echoes a reality they do not yet fully grasp: the inevitability of death. The pair reflects on how children rehearse, unknowingly, the idea that we are all doomed, transforming a game into a quiet meditation on our own mortality.
