UNO SGUARDO NELLA MIA VITA: DAI DONI DELLA NATURA ALLA
RAPPRESENTAZIONE DELLE MIE EMOZIONI
Arnaldo Sannoner
A GLIMPSE INTO MY LIFE: FROM THE GIFTS OF NATURE TO THE
EXPRESSION OF MY EMOTIONS
Arnaldo Sannoner
I was born in Florence on 6 October 1961, a city that has always lived and breathed art. From childhood, I showed a deep interest in shapes, materials and colours: wood, metal and any object capable of being transformed into a creative expression fascinated me.
During secondary school, I discovered a passion for drawing, both freehand — particularly ornamentation — and geometric, and so chose to continue my studies at the Art School specialising in Architecture. During those years, I attended a course in printmaking and intaglio engraving, delving into the techniques of the great masters such as Rembrandt, Dürer and, above all, Piranesi, whose famous series of Vases, Candelabra and Cippi I greatly admired. He inspired my passion for the art of the master silversmiths and glassmakers of the Murano school, as well as for works of art in general as symbols of elegance and light. After completing my studies, I honed my skills in intaglio engraving and printing at the Scuola
Ornamentale, earning the title of Master Engraver. This enabled me to collaborate with leading art publishers and work alongside masters of contemporary art in the 1980s and 1990s, experiences that have shaped my artistic vision.
In 1984, I was employed at the Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato as a press operator specialising in lithography and intaglio printing. Over time, I took on roles of responsibility in security graphic design, the philatelic centre, the mint engraving studio and iconographic research, combining
technical rigour with aesthetic sensitivity. In 1996, I completed a two-year course in Industrial Design at the IED, exploring the relationship
between art, form and function. I subsequently opened an interior design studio, dedicating myself to interior design and restoration, always guided by the interplay between material, light and colour.
I concluded my time at Poligrafico on 1 March 2025, to devote myself fully to my truest calling: art.
Every symphony and harmony form the foundations from which all my work springs. It all begins ith the gaze — with the eyes that capture shapes, light and impressions — and then transforms emotions into inspiration. For me, travel has always been an opportunity for discovery and reflection, a source of inspiration that fuels my artistic exploration. My works are born from wood, a genuine gift of nature. Every part of it, whether intact or marked by time or events, holds its own soul: it is from this that my work takes shape, in a silent and respectful dialogue between the artist and the material, as if the wood itself were guiding me towards its truth.
The lathe thus becomes the meeting point between gesture and thought. Its circular motion generates swirls and dynamics that evoke the force and speed of Futurist art, a movement to which I feel an affinity, creating energy, light and form. From the rotation of the raw wood, essential forms emerge, born not of imposition but of listening: the material suggests, the artist interprets. It is in this dialogue that harmony is achieved between nature and creation, between instinct and control, between stillness and movement.
What has been said so far aims to highlight art as a representation of emotions; the works that ollow represent the natural evolution of this exploration: a visual narrative characterised by rhythm, balance and constant evolution.
