The sculpture is a hybrid creature—part fox, part hare, part deer—suggesting no single species, but rather an archetype of the hunted, the exploited, the endangered. Through this work, I reflect on the paradox of grace under threat. These creatures, elegant and serene, move through the world with quiet dignity, even as we hunt them, farm them, displace and destroy their habitats. Nature endures with patience and a quiet resilience, yet it is burdened—heavily—by the presence and actions of humanity.
The Burden of Grace is both a tribute and a lament. It speaks to the fragile beauty of the natural world and the devastating impact of our dominion over it.
