Hare-brain explores the dual perceptions of rabbits—as cherished pets and as commodities for meat and fur. Reflecting broader themes in my practice, the work highlights the contradictions within human-animal relationships. While we nurture and celebrate some animals, we simultaneously participate in systems that confine, exploit, and kill countless others.
Visually, I draw on the language of children’s illustration—soft colours, ornamental detail, and a sense of whimsy—to lure viewers into confronting uncomfortable truths. This contrast between innocence and unease reflects how society masks systemic harm through sentimentality or denial.
By reimagining animals not as passive victims but as complex, active agents, I seek to disrupt familiar hierarchies and challenge assumptions about empathy, power, and responsibility. Each image functions as a contemporary fable—inviting a deeper engagement with the lives we so often overlook.
