#Host VS Boast is one of 11 artworks in the Saint Tropez edition a wall sculpture series titled “Selfless in a Selfie World.” I use duality as a tool across artworks, and here it is illustrated through “host” (the selfless state of serving others) with “boast” (the ego-centric state of self promotion). I depict the concept of social media boasting and self-proclaimed superiority with photography shot of a mega yacht named “Best Off.” I illustrate the symbol representing the “Boast” antithesis as “Host” with a playful twist. While it may at first appear as a tiny French bikini, it’s actually a blown up champagne stem and bubble… because it takes two to toast.
Solid cast acrylic is machined to house 289 hand oriented aluminum parts with the photography. I use an automotive grade paint process to achieve an ultra opaque execution of the white symbol hovering at the forefront of the sculpture. On the backside, the champagne paint color shows through clear machined acrylic with a very subtle mica that gives a soft glimmer with light. I seek to aesthetically embody the glitz and glam of the highly sought after selfie world destination of Saint Tropez in this work and across the series as a whole.
