This wall sculpture, # Clarity VS Noise, is a part of a series titled "Selfless in a Selfie World.” I travel to coveted selfie destinations, shoot photography, and juxtapose the photographed imagery with abstract symbolism I create that embodies the antithesis in a selfless state (that of our essence based identity often hidden behind ego identity constructs).
This artwork in particular is a part of the Saint Tropez edition. The photography (transferred onto floating aluminum parts) is of a racing vessel’s confusing electrical panel: a representation of visual "noise" in the selfie world. The painted white symbol at the forefront represents “clarity” .. inspired by light cutting through the fog, beams emanating from a center point, just as our very consciousness has that potential to surpass the haze of media noise, chaos, and inundation.
I machine a solid block of cast acrylic through which the viewer can see 289 hand assembled, anodized aluminum parts with photography. The artwork seemingly levitates in front of the wall on which it is hung, through a strategic engineering system on the backside. A minimal, clean-lined execution is accomplished with sanding, polishing, and paint.
