# Grounded VS Swept Away is a wall sculpture within the art series “Selfless in a Selfie World.” I shoot international photography throughout selfie destinations, herein Saint Tropez, where people visit to see and be seen, and contrast the imagery with large scale abstract symbols representing a more fruitful path of existence for our soul’s evolution.
I headline being “swept away” as the online selfie world participants’ loss of control, awareness, and concept of time while scrolling through social media. I discovered life saving devices to photograph in Saint Tropez while searching for how to depict the concept visually. I thereafter illustrated a symbol for “grounded” (blanketed across in white) to convey the importance of sinking within.
Overall, I create a new visual language of symbols imbued with consciousness that are intended to serve as invitations for the world to question its seeking of external destinations, and to consider the equal and greater value of traveling inward. The artwork is intended to go beyond observation and benefit viewers by supporting personal transformation. Please note, this artwork is currently being finished in fabrication and will be complete in time for the Arte Laguna exhibition.
