State of Suspension No. 5
State of Suspension No. 5 explores the body as a site of social inscription, memory, and resistance. Positioned between burden and transformation, the figure carries fragments of intimate garments that symbolize identity, gender expectations, and the invisible structures that shape everyday life. The suspended bras function as traces of collective experience, reflecting the ways in which social norms become embedded within the body.
The black and red garment evokes both protection and restriction, while the marked face occupies a space between concealment and revelation. Through this tension, the work examines how personal identity is continuously negotiated within social, cultural, and historical frameworks.
Rather than presenting a fixed narrative, the photograph creates a moment of suspension—a state in which vulnerability and strength, oppression and agency, coexist. The body becomes a vessel carrying accumulated experiences and emotional residues, while simultaneously opening a space for transformation and redefinition.
State of Suspension No. 5 invites viewers to reflect on the weight of social expectations and the possibility of transcending them through acts of endurance, self-awareness, and resistance.
