The Five Commissioners is a series, which is created based on five commissioners who took their roots in Chinese folklore. They are deities venerated in Chinese traditions for protection against pestilence. A reflection of the farming toilers’ wishes for dispelling evil, wishes for human and livestock safety, and, nevertheless, wishes for good harvests. The Five Commissioners took their inspirations and were created during the COVID-19 pandemic, under which the New Five Commissioners take on important occupations for public health safety: the EMD, the Screener, the R&D, the Pulmonologist, and the Disinfector. The art style closely simulates the traditional brushwork portrayal while kneading in features of contemporary personnel and medical devices trusted by people today.
