I grew up in a Catholic community, but seeing the environment around me, this religion collapsed for me. This painting shows that disillusionment. The halo is cracked with missing pieces, and the little angels are running away—one of them is even stealing the crown. This is also a self-portrait as Saint Agnes. It represents my desire to escape the routine of daily life, to accept my own imperfections, and to break out of the frame of everyday expectations
