Commissioned for I-PARK FOUNDATION, Site-Responsive Artist Residency & Biennale 2019, Connecticut, USA
Materials: Oregon timber & recycled timber
Concept
Remnants of a submerged village break the water's surface to reveal its forgotten site. This contemporary interpretation of a commemorative memorial is informed by the social and environmental impacts of resource mining, changing climates and past inhabitants. The lake occupies a now flooded decommissioned gravel quarry and the surrounding post-industrial site has been reclaimed by the lush Connecticut forest. The lake offered a perfect location for this multi-layered reflective narrative that explores the social and environmental impacts of changing climates.
Description
7 floating timber structures are anchored to the lake bed, made to resemble building roof structures from past habitation. They are free to move around their anchor.
