BIO INTRODUCTION
International environmental artist Sally Kidall creates vast site-responsive interventions, both virtual and physical, within challenging natural and urban locations and beyond the restraints of the gallery. Since gaining her Sculpture (Hons) Degree at Norwich School of Art, UK and later completing her Masters at Portsmouth University, UK, Kidall has worked consistently in developing her international art practice. She has exhibited throughout the UK and Australia, USA, Senegal, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Ukraine, S.Korea, New Zealand, India, Andorra, Netherlands, Canada, Finland and Croatia.
Inspiring sites include exposed coastal cliff tops and beaches, fresh water and ancient dry lakes, abandoned quarries, caves and mines, decommissioned industrial sites and road bridges, coastal salt marshes, arid landscapes, a medieval gatehouse and an old church. Through her practice, she endeavours to inspire and challenge a wider audience, evoking thoughts/questions and stimulating discussion. Based in Australia, she travels widely to create her engaging site-responsive interventions: Dakar OFF 22, as part of the Dakar Biennale, Senegal; regularly exhibiting at Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi, Australia; I-Park Site-Responsive Biennale, Andorra Biennale L'andArt, The Story of Space, Panjim, India, Global Nomadic Art Project Residency, France; International Contemporary Sculpture Festival, Ukraine a collaboration with Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
"Through site-responsive interventions, both virtual and physical, I seek to challenge the predictability of expectations and ‘cultural homogeneity’ by creating metaphorical spaces and environments that explore the anxieties and insecurities of the Anthropocene Era."
