“Obsessidian 2.0” is a series of items that bring together an ancient natural material- volcanic rocks and lava- and the world of modern technology (CNC milling). This encounter creates a one-of-a-kind visual performance that cannot exist in nature- the natural porous rock next to the shiny obsidian glass, the source next to the product.
This project was created using local rocks from dormant volcanoes in Golan Heights in Israel, and draws inspiration directly from local archeological artifacts. It raises questions about the value and appreciation we have for archeological items, while examining the rock itself, and lava, as a raw material.
This project is a direct development of an older project- “obsessidian”, which carries out material research on volcanic rocks and intervenes in a place that has been natural thus far- the transformation from lava, to rock, to volcanic glass- Obsidian.
