The installation wants to celebrate the artist, Amedeo Modigliani, interpretating through a new reading key one of its most important pictorical sign, the rappresentation of the eye, which highly contributed to his artistic identity.
" When I know your soul I will paint your eyes" said Modigliani, that he could not paint what he did not know, namely the soul of the men and women he was portraying.
The work is a personal interpretation of the eye, a symbol reproposed here with sinuous but essential shapes, through the harmony of a minimal composition of three elements.
Pure lines draw a stylized metal eye, positioned centrally, then completed by a round top in blue marble and a circular mirror, which are located on opposite sides. The perspective from which the spectator looks at the work is fundamental: in fact, from the front, it appears as an eye...but if you look at it from the side, the perception changes completely, and it reveals how it really is. With this choice we want to underline the very objective of the work, that is to go beyond simple appearance, trying to reach deeper levels of knowledge.
Furthermore, the idea is to create an active relationship between the work and the viewer, who is called to "look inside". The marble shape represents the state of "unawareness" of oneself, the mirror is instead the means by which one tries to scrutinize and know one's soul. The decomposition of the work into three elements also favors eye contact with the other spectators present in the room, in a game of looks that constantly passes between the work, us and the other spectators. The expressive dimension of the eyes and gaze is not only central to the ability to come into contact with the experience of the Other, therefore to empathize, but also for the ability to look inside one's own world.
This installation is an invitation to reach an understanding of the deepest states and inaccessible of being
