GDP, 1947-Present

Taking a few minutes away from work for a smoke, an ordinary worker pauses while decades of U.S. GDP data accumulate around him. Behind that small moment sits an economic system of almost incomprehensible scale - one that he participates in every day without ever being able to see in its entirety. Created in Microsoft Excel, a tool itself embedded in the systems used to measure and track economic activity, GDP, 1947-Present explores that fleeting awareness before ordinary life resumes and the tension between an individual and the vast systems that measure, organize and depend upon it.
