Lately we hear about recovery and sustainability everywhere, without however being able to concretely distinguish what really is and what isn't.
Wovo wants to raise awareness of this situation, showing how something unexpected and beautiful can be born from a material that was destined to die.
Wovo consists of a solid wild cherry log, a precious essence that is very difficult to recover in these dimensions, carved in the shape of an egg on whose surface grooves with different curves have been engraved.
Its name derives from the harmonic similarity of the sounds generated by the words "uovo" (italian language) which indicates the main form and "wow" natural exclamation which indicates amazement and wonder at what you look at.
The wood of Wovo, as well as all my other works, has been "brought to safety".
The wood of the artwork depicted comes from a slope of a forest in the province of Varese after the electricity company made extraordinary cuts for the maintenance of the power lines.Tons of wood were destined to rot. But there are specimens of trees that have seen wars, have accompanied the succession of generations, have endured climate change, had become the reference point for the locals simply because they bloomed first or were the tallest in the woods. Well these specimens do not deserve to rot abandoned.
However, this situation occurs every year and in every city. Whether they are plants, beams of old buildings or Venetian briccole, they all have a story to tell. But despite this, most of the time they are abandoned, burned or destined for waste.
Holes, defects and variations in wood tones are natural elements, and the cracks amplify the concept of the hatching of the egg, making the final work even more unique. They are the testimony of the world that these timbers have seen.
Wovo wants to be a discreet work, beautiful to look at and that leads the eye to dwell on it.
That is able to integrate perfectly in any context, placed on the ground in a house or on a pedestal in an art gallery. It is a simple object that finds immediate feedback from all users, from the most technical and prepared to the passer-by passionate about art.
