Neo Eva 2029 is the first bronze sculpture created by Yuri Catania and belongs to Yuri in Wonderland, the body of work in which the artist explores the relationship between technological humanity and nature: the astronaut, a metaphor for the contemporary human being subjugated by technology, is immersed in the natural world and called to return to what it truly is, nature itself. Through nature, the series brings wonder and beauty back into view. Within this series the Astro Girls occupy a central place: female astronauts painted over Catania's photographs, figures through which the artist reflects on femininity, care and the possibility of carrying life, and beauty, into an uncertain future.
The flowers that bloom across the sculpture are not invented: they are the flowers of the garden of CasaGalleria.ART in Rovio, the same blossoms the artist photographs at night and paints in his canvases. Cast in bronze, they pass from the most fragile of subjects to the most enduring of materials, sealing in permanent form the living garden from which the entire series was born.
