Both artworks are ceramic plates representing the print of a drawing realized during 2020’s lockdown.
The installation is based on three levels of elaboration
- The first one is technical: the challenge was to print a drawing on a ceramic plate maintaining its details.
- The second one is based on the intrinsic meaning of the drawing and the target was to preserve the essential equilibrium of our life made up by nature, sky, hope.
- The third one is based on the concept of art therapy: part of the artwork was realized by the children of the Social - rehabilitative Center “Fossetta” in Sassuolo, a space for disabled children that turns into a laboratory where art has a therapy function.
The ceramic plate was realized with a new generation press, used for the fabrication of big plates. The decoration was realized with a digital machine using black ink for high temperatures. This kind of ink, once fired in an industrial kiln at a temperature of 1200 Celsius for 110 minutes, becomes waterproof, frost-proof and reaches the right ultimate tensile strength. These characteristics are important for next cold decorative works, on one hand, and for making the artwork durable endowing it with the higher meaning of producing something that lasts in time, on the other.
The artwork represents the contrast between a negative future (on the left side) and an optimistic present (on the central and right side of the drawing), dominated by infra-temporal relationships among animals, humans, rainbows, clocks without pointers that represent eyes and many other symbols.
Hence, the doubts about the future appear, represented by the black question marks around the word “future”, and the desperate attempt by the “present” to preserve it: some characters from the “present” are playing thug-of-war (higher part of the drawing) “guided” by a chick, trying to bring the “future” by their side. A positive side.
The second plate makes even a further evolution: it was decorated by the children of the “Fossetta” Center, which gives the artwork also a powerful meaning of art therapy. The children were left free to use any color, without any limit or restriction.

ITA:
