This is a montage of a series of photographs of the village on the island of Sottomarina (Chioggia, Venice), documenting the passage of time on the walls of the urban scene, which is continually renewed and in a way that is imperceptible to most, in an attempt to remove it from its underlying “latency”. With repeated photographic campaigns on the same exact places, along which a multitude of colors follow one another in a disorderly fashion, a tradition that has become the taste and style of an entire community, some fragments of time have been captured and an attempt has been made to illustrate its slow and inexorable passage. The use of color that has been made on these surfaces goes far beyond the pure decorative attitude, it is characterized by profound meanings that lead directly back to the way of life of the people, which has continued for centuries always in the same way, always different. The observation of this settlement tradition conveys an important lesson to us, where a strong building density corresponds to an equally strong perceptive diversification, and not only for the continuous transformation process of elementary typological models, but as a precise identifying intentionality. In this way, both the urban and the individual dimension, permanence and mutability, the norm and its many exceptions coexist together.
