This is a montage of a series of photographs of the village on the island of Sottomarina (Chioggia, Venice), documenting the passage of time on the walls of an urban scene that is continually and imperceptibly renewed to most, in an attempt to rescue it from its underlying latency. With repeated photographic campaigns on the exact same places, along which a multitude of colors follow one another haphazardly, a tradition that has become the taste and style of an entire community, fragments of time have been captured and an attempt has been made to illustrate its slow and inexorable passing.
The use of color that has been made on these surfaces goes far beyond a purely decorative attitude; it is characterized by deep meanings that lead directly back to the way of life of the people, which has lasted for centuries always the same, always different.
Observation of this settlement tradition conveys an important lesson, where a strong building density corresponds to an equally strong perceptual diversification, and not only because of the continuous process of transformation of elementary typological patterns, but as a precise identity intentionality. In this way, urban and individual dimensions, permanence and mutability, the norm and its many exceptions coexist.
