【About the work】
This work, titled Satellite, was created in 2025 by Kan Murayama, who creates works using photographed images of the body, under the theme of a shadow cast by actuality.
By peeling away the surface of the bodily image, the work explores the shadow that would be cast by the actuality into which the body has transformed from a physical entity. The shadow is pursued as a trace through which that actuality itself may be discovered.
In this work, the cracks, surface relief, and patterns of marble are recreated by building up layers of UV-cured ink on an aluminum composite panel, over which the artwork image is printed.
This reproduction is not intended to imitate real marble. Rather, it emphasizes artificiality and fiction.

【Artistic Philosophy】
The body transformed into a planar image, through deconstruction and reconstruction, acquires a new form and is endowed with its own depth and dynamic materiality.
I aim to engage the viewer’s own bodily memory, which retains memories of perception, and to create a unique creative space between the work and the viewer.
