Darkness Begins to Fall is the fifth work in Five Corridors from the Brown Wall. After atmosphere, purple weight, green herbal scatter, and flame, the sequence settles into residue. The flowers have begun to fall back into the room: petals on the table, darkening hydrangea, glass vase, an old glazed crock, shadow, and the brown wall holding the late light.
The Brown Wall remains constant, but the subject changes state. An early photograph in a frame with the upper glass gone sits among the objects, turning the image toward damage, memory, and aftermath without leaving the bounded table space. At this scale, the viewer is invited to look longer, to find the broken places, the small mysteries, and the evidence of time gathered inside the room.
