The artwork was created using a photographic technique called “Intentional Camera Movement” (ICM Photography) and taken with a Phase One camera attached to a 150-megapixel IQ4 back for maximum resolution and detail.
This newly developed precinct of Sydney is called “Barangaroo,” and it is named after Bennelong’s wife.
She was a skilled, fiercely independent Aboriginal Cammeraygal woman who resisted British cultural intrusion at the time of European settlement. Indeed, she is rumoured to have broken his spears to prevent him from interacting with the British.
It has been 235 years since the death of Barangaroo, the warrior woman who lived on this land and fished in these very waters. What would she think of her fishing ground today?
