My name is David V. Basioli, and I reside in Sydney, Australia.
For over 25 years, I was a full-time professional photographer.
That ended in 2012, and for the last 10 years I’ve been looking for a vehicle to showcase my talent.
Then, in 2021 I discovered a style of photography commonly known today as “Intentional Camera Movement” or I.C.M. photography.
Since then, I’ve been creating dreamy, exploding and/or mutating seascapes and landscapes that look and feel like paintings.
My methodology is simple: I choose to photograph locations that resonate with me in some way.
Whether it's the weather, the light, composition, or a combination of all three- there must be some "visual riff" going on at the time.
My goal is to create arresting and recognizable images that might be described as "expressionistic" or "surrealistic" in style that captures the viewer’s attention.
In 2025, I decided to realise a dream I had when I first began this journey: Creating Intentional Camera Movement images in medium format. This is my first foray into this realm and here is the result. Scenes become veritable visual operas with swirling kaleidoscopes of colour, detail and a subtlety of tone that seems to go on forever. Further, given their sheer size, they take the viewer into another world as they become windows that give you a glimpse of a reality that is both real and unreal.
All images were captured with a Phase One camera featuring a 150-megapixel IQ4 back which is currently the world’s largest camera sensor offering unmatched tonality, sharpness and visual impact.
