Sopot in Blue portrays two women standing by the Baltic Sea, composed and self-assured beneath an expansive summer sky. Their striped swimsuits and blue sunglasses evoke the elegance of vintage seaside photography, while their direct presence gives the scene a distinctly contemporary strength.
The painting was inspired by Sopot and by my memories of the Polish coast—its cool blue light, long horizon and particular atmosphere of freedom. Rather than presenting a specific story, I wanted to capture the feeling of a shared summer moment: the quiet confidence of two women who are entirely comfortable in their surroundings and in themselves.
I use simplified shapes, strong contours and carefully constructed planes of light and shadow to combine the graphic language of Pop Art with the luminosity of Impressionism. The contrasts between blue, turquoise, white, red and warm golden sand create a sense of clarity and optimism. For me, Sopot in Blue is a celebration of friendship, independence and the timeless ritual of standing together at the edge of the sea.
