This painting is inspired by mirrors and my fantasies about them. When studying old master paintings, I often wondered why artists were so drawn to mirrors. If I were to interpret them symbolically, I see a mirror as a space that exists outside the present moment. The circular space in this painting is exactly that — the reflection of a mirror.
In our journey through life, we often find it difficult to reconcile with our past selves. Only by returning to the time and space of the past, by reshaping our memories, can we let go of regrets, remorse, and the ignorance of earlier days? In this painting, the nature of memory is re-examined. Within the rural landscape that comes into view lies a past that awaits reconciliation.
The composition is surreal. A cat enters the circular, mirror-like space and time, making its way towards an inner harmony on the other side. The cat is a metaphor for the artist herself. "I let everything happen just like this on the canvas, and I let it happen inside me, moving forward without asking where it leads."
