I approached foreign residents living in Japan and created portraits with the aim of engaging with as many people as possible. By layering acrylic paint over silkscreen prints and then printing another layer, the work records traces of exchanges that transcend cultural and linguistic boundaries.

Even though we could not communicate through language, we were able to understand each other.
