Mukam and Jazz No.6
This artwork takes the traditional Uyghur flower hat as its core visual shape. Yet its raw materials are stones and soil from the Tianshan Mountains. The turbine parts installed on the piece are daily scraps left after the artist’s studio was torn down during urban construction.
The artist combines all these physical materials with rotating moving structures. He uses rough, strong textures and the sunrise and sunset glow over Tianshan. This glow was the only view the artist’s mother, who used to work as a doctor, could see through the window after she became paralyzed in bed.
These elements echo the endless, living melodies of Mukam and jazz that exist deep inside people’s hearts.
