Imprints - traces left on the grass after a folded
tent or a demolished building are a visual record of the history of a given
place. I am interested in the trace of what comes immediately after, it is the
result of a change where we can still clearly see the "scar" after
the disappearance of a given object. Knowing the place, we know exactly what
was hidden behind the reflection of the trace. Without knowing it, we can only
attempt a visual retrospection. The demolished building structure is a matrix
and the remains on the grass become its graphic print. In my project
"Memory of Place", as a graphic designer, I am most interested in
these prints - traces, scars. Using photos taken from a drone, I look for interesting
places where abrasions, depressions and scarring tell me its story. In the
presented work, I was inspired by the plan of the 14th century monastery church
of the former Cistercian abbey in Rudy. The implementation is an image of the
trace seen from a bird's eye view that would remain of the building if it was
demolished. I tried to recreate its shape using nature's tools.
