ATLAS 03 — CORTEX portrays a gorilla with an exposed brain and visible skeletal fragments, transforming the animal body into an anatomical and psychological map. Its direct, intense gaze confronts the viewer, while the contrast between physical strength and biological vulnerability questions the boundary between instinct and consciousness, human and animal.
The work is part of Atlas of the Surgical Existence, a series exploring living beings as complex archives of memory, anatomy, transformation and identity.
