Description
Wildflower Memory is a statement table artwork exploring the preservation of fleeting moments from the natural landscape.
The botanical elements used in the work were personally collected and dried by the artist, including delicate dandelion seed heads captured at a particular moment in their natural life cycle. The dandelions form a central element of the composition, their intricate spherical structures carefully preserved rather than dispersed.
Multiple layers of resin were hand-poured to gradually build the surface around the fragile botanical specimens. This process allows the delicate seed heads and flowers to remain suspended and visually intact within the resin, creating depth while preserving their natural forms.
Set against a deep, dark ground, the pale dandelion seed heads and wildflowers appear almost illuminated, creating the impression of a fragment of meadow held in suspension. The contrast between the organic, ephemeral materials and the permanence of resin reflects an interest in transformation, preservation and the passage of time.
Presented as a statement table, the work moves beyond the conventional wall-based artwork and becomes an object within the viewer's environment. The restrained black structure contrasts with the intricate botanical surface, allowing the preserved landscape to become the focus.
Wildflower Memory transforms personally gathered elements of the natural world into a permanent artwork, preserving something inherently temporary and inviting the viewer to reconsider the beauty of familiar, fleeting forms.
